Water & Waste
MWH, now part of Stantec is a global leader in the water infrastructure sector. We implement technically innovative water and wastewater solutions to manage and meet increasingly complex regulatory and quality standards while focusing on sustainable and cost effective options. We provide a full suite of integrated water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste and general civil, engineering and management advisory services to meet the needs of our clients, using innovation, the latest industry research and global experience.
Our specialists have designed more than 470 water treatment plants ranging from small, rural solutions to large plants with a capacity of more than 1,000MLD. In Australia we have a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, planners and environmental scientists dedicated to assisting our clients to efficiently and effectively deal with issues relating to drinking water supply. Our expertise runs from master planning, feasibility studies and resource consenting right through to design and construction monitoring of new developments. We are particularly adept at developing smart solutions at the front-end of projects to save capital and operating costs. Our designers have implemented both traditional and new membrane technology and we have a track-record of developing cost-saving procurement processes to ensure our clients achieve whole of asset value.
MWH’s experience covers all stages of treatment and disposal. Making the right decisions at the start of a wastewater development project is important. Our work in feasibility, issues and options studies, flow modelling and optimisation of current assets to increase treatment plant efficiencies has won several industry awards. We have extensive experience in the detailed design of civil, mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation works associated with wastewater treatment plants and disposal facilities. MWH’s track record of securing resource consents for wastewater treatment plants is second to none. Over the past 10 years we have completed Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE), options investigations, consultation, planning assessments, resource consent applications and provided expert evidence for over 25 wastewater treatment plants.
MWH has extensive experience in the investigation, assessment, design and management of stormwater infrastructure and systems and river quality and quantity issues. Our holistic approach to catchment management takes into account the social, economic and engineering aspects as well as climate change and sustainability issues. There is increasing emphasis on the need to ensure that stormwater and rivers (urban and rural) are managed in such a way that flooding is controlled, yet the solutions follow sustainable practices. Stormwater technology is also changing rapidly with cutting edge modelling software being developed.
MWH provides practical planning and engineering solutions no matter what the community or business need. Our team includes internationally recognised practitioners and has expertise in all stages of the waste cycle. Our work is governed by sustainability principles and focuses on a ‘cradle to cradle’ approach. We have evaluated and implemented a huge range of waste minimisation initiatives for clients in Australia and around the world with a focus on developing alternatives to allow for re-use, recycling, reduction and recovery of individual and combined waste streams.
